Netscape says: We support 11 platforms (or something like that)
MS says but 8 of those are UNIX and only account for 1% of the community, yet:
MS says we support 27 languages, and netscape only 4 (or something)
But I say that 7 different dialects of Hebrew or Spanish
(or something like that) don't count as
whole languages, and that it is much more difficult to write code
on 8 different UNIX platforms that to add another dialect
of a language that is already supported.
My basic point is that MS is hypocritical. And I hate that.
extra note: intranet's tend to not to be hetrogeneous - ie multi-platform - so for large companies MS is a bad choice!
May the browser war result in better, faster and higher quality browsers
for us ALL (UNIX users included).
Some more things that I feel:
Netscape said that they would support open standards.
I said yeah right .. they'll pretend to and then blah blah blah ..
And they really do! You can write your own server or browser that
supports SSL etc... I was proven wrong again
MS and open Standards and browser is free
MS says they support open standards. What good is that on just one
platorm?
Netscape chose to go open standard route, MS was forced to, and I
believe that if they were in control it would not be open (like in the past)
MS says browser is free. I don't believe so, they can't put all that
effort in and give it to you for free. The cost of the browser is ammortized
over the whole package.
MS says it is going to port I.E to UNIX, I don't believe it! I'll
believe it when I see it. I'd like to see ActiveX running on a Mac or Unix
box!
Kudo's:
Go to Microsoft to getting a browser of reasonable quality up and running
so fast. Quite a feat for a large company.
